Red Bird Arts District is going live with Desmond Jones and Flores Lava

Hey, we try our best to make it to every concert, party, gallery opening, festival, food truck, happy hour, play, fundraiser, and movie that we can— but, we’re only human. So, sometimes when we send a text that says, “Are we on for later?” when we really just mean, “Please tell me something came up.” We think we aren’t alone.

So, when we heard Red Bird Arts District was launching something to ease our FOMO (fear of missing out)— and perhaps increase our POSH (pleasure of staying home)— we were pretty excited. To soothe the anxieties of concert-goers who couldn’t quite make it, or someone who legitimately has something going on besides “It is 7pm and I took my pants off already. Are you kidding?”— the Birds have the perfect option: Live in the District.

The series pairs up musicians and filmmakers in a new effort to promote the local arts. Local favorites and touring bands are invited to play live shows in downtown Sylvania. Professional filmmakers will document the performance and create a three-song video, to be later available online to the public.

Come see what Live in the District is all about this Saturday.

Desmond Jones from Grand Rapids, MI and Toledoans Flores Lava play funky jazz-fusion in the alley next to Chandler Cafe. The two bands will also play the night before at the Ottawa Tavern.

Back in March, Live in the District launched with a performance by Ten Strings and a Goat Skin played at Hudson Gallery. Check out the video, filmed by Josh Lightle, Chris Wegman, and David Navarre below:
