Andrea Minard & Zach Opperman
06.27.15
Zach and I met one night in the hospital Emergency Room. I was finishing nursing school and job shadowing, and he was working as a nurse on a trauma case. We both recognized each other as we made eye contact across the room, realizing that our paths had crossed before. It was an instant connection that neither of us could deny!
A few weeks later, we met up for some St. Patrick’s Day fun which became the beginning of our love story. Later on, I returned home from a long day at work and Zach proposed to me with tulips in hand and our favorite song playing in the background. It was so perfect… so unexpected, a special moment shared just the two of us. Zach looked at me and said, “I never understood crying out of happiness until now.”
Overall, the vendors and local professionals we used for our wedding helped us tell our story. We live in and love downtown Toledo and wanted to share that Toledo experience with all our guests.

For ambiance, we worked with Mager Lighting Design and were very pleased with the special bistro lights and uplighting effects that they provided. The attention to detail given for lighting and decor for custom events was very personalized.

After cocktail hour, we headed into the reception area where we had a live band, Nine Lives, perform. The night carried on with dancing and the band did a great job getting people on the dance floor. They even picked up on a song that was mentioned during the best man’s speech and played it later, which was awesome!

Wedding ceremony and venue
Registry Bistro

We wanted a venue that was different, but also special to us. Both living and working in downtown Toledo, it was important to us to show our love for downtownn in our wedding venue choice. In a space that formerly was an old hotel, Registry Bistro, is now a restored art gallery/restaurant with historical significance. It is a great blend of old-world class and modern sophistication, complete with a ballroom. It became the perfect spot for our ceremony and catered wedding. The open pallette of warm wood and stone colored walls was beautiful.
Our cocktail hour was held in the art gallery, right outside the ceremony reception area. Guests were able to mingle and we were able to greet everyone who came. For dining, Registry Bistro provided a fantastic cold soup. The rest of the dinner was served family-style, and we enjoyed gnocchi, beef brisket, fish and vegetables. We knew the food was going to be great as we had dined in the restaurant many times before.

The color palette of our wedding was mainly neutrals, incorporated with champagne, gold, some silver and white. I just loved the look of a neutral pallet, as it never goes out of style. Our flowers were a mix of peonies and other delicate, white flowers. Our wedding was simple elegance. The decor was complemented with the addition of gold Chiavari chairs— which looked stunning!

When deciding on my wedding dress, I knew I wanted something that would make a statement. I have always loved a dramatic mermaid. I ended up finding my dress at David’s Bridal, a Vera Wang gown in exactly my size from the White Collection. We continued with Vera Wang bridesmaid dresses and slim cut Vera Wang tuxedos from Men’s Warehouse for the guys. The bridesmaid dresses were floor length strapless peplum-style with a mixture of stone-colored chiffon and satin.
Mallory Myers & Nelson (Spike) Holliday
June 20, 2015
The Groom, aka “Spike” and I have known each other since high school. We were introduced through mutual friends and became close through our high school and college years. Over Christmas break in 2012, we rekindled our friendship and met up at Dale’s in Maumee. Even though we each had teaching careers in different states, we kept in daily contact. Over time, Spike got a teaching position in the same city I was working… and the rest is history! We took a trip to Europe as soon as school ended to celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer. We decided to explore Madrid, Spain along with Spike’s mom (who was carrying the engagement ring). After a day of sightseeing, we got ice cream and walked through the Garden of the Royal Palace. Spike and I went off on our own and he got down on one knee, pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him! The rest of our European adventure was a celebration of our love and commitment to each other. I also found a beautiful Spanish lace dress there to wear to the rehearsal dinner. We are huge Ohio State Buckeye fans and decided to have an Ohio State-themed wedding! Our marriage ceremony was at Grace United Church in Perrysburg.
Venue
The Sullivan Center at GESU

We chose the Sullivan Center at Gesu because we wanted a venue that allowed us to choose our own caterer. They had a list of preferred caterers— it was less expensive to use one of them. We were able to bring our own alcohol and decorate the hall to our style and budget. Diana was very helpful to work with. This venue is very open and has plenty of room to dance and mingle.

We first met Dan Moses, owner of Wurzell Studio, at a bridal show and knew from the start we wanted to book with him because of his warm and outgoing personality. He created a package based on our needs and handled both the engagement and wedding photos. On our wedding day, the photographer created a very relaxing atmosphere for everyone and made the process very easy. We were very happy with how our pictures turned out.

We knew the first time we met with Eston’s Bakery they would be the perfect choice for our wedding cake. Not only are all of the flavors absolutely delicious, but they are very experienced and were able to guide us in the right direction with all the questions we had. They are very professional and delivered the cake to GESU so we had nothing to worry about.

Jamie Waddell was fabulous to work and she did an absolutely amazing job decorating GESU. We received so many compliments, especially on the ceiling. Our parents could not stop talking about how the decorations really transformed the venue. Candlelight Occasions takes care of all the setup and take down and we had no worries.

I absolutely loved the staff at Atlas because they are so friendly and welcoming. Even though most of my bridesmaids live out of town, they were able to send in their measurements to order their dresses. The dresses came in with plenty of time for alterations before the wedding and they looked fabulous with our Ohio State theme. For the men’s attire, we picked Ticknor’s because my husband had a good experience purchasing a suit there for another wedding. The service is top-notch and the suits looked great. They will alter your suit all the way up to a week before the wedding to make sure it fits correctly.

My husband actually designed my engagement ring himself using diamonds from his grandmother’s ring. He went to Alan Miller Jewelers and they were so helpful in putting his vision together. I was absolutely blown away when he proposed with the gorgeous ring! We also picked out both of our wedding bands there and they are always ready to help when we come in.

Childers was easy to work with when we booked our limo bus and they provided ice and cups on our wedding day! We were able to bring both food and drink on the bus. Our driver was fun and it allowed us to have a good time. We actually ran into another wedding party while we were taking pictures and Spike knew the groom so we took our picture with them! Spike is in the gray suit (we are on the left).
Florist
Sharry’s Touch (Sharry Folmer)
Holland

I highly recommend Sharry if you are looking for inexpensive, yet gorgeous flowers. She was able to incorporate both my grandmother’s rosary and a piece from my mom’s wedding dress in my bouquet. I was originally going to make the centerpieces to save money, but her prices were very reasonable and I could not pass up the opportunity for her to create something beautiful. Sharry took care of everything at the church and the reception.
