Toledo native Wanda Butts is on the map on a national scale. The founder of The Josh Project, a nonprofit swimming and water safety organization, has been named a Top Ten CNN Hero of 2012 — and our votes will decide whether she is named the one and only CNN Hero of the Year. Butts founded The Josh Project after losing her son in a drowning accident, turning her struggle into a worthy cause by teaching children in the community how to swim. The award comes with a $250,000 prize that, if Butts wins, will be used to build an Aquatic Center in Toledo.
Voting is online at CNNHeroes.com and will run through Wednesday, November 28 at midnight. –ML
