Droning on
Fremont police had just finished the second day of training with their new $4,000 camera drone when they got a call. An inmate had escaped from a Sandusky county lock up, and officers on the scene needed help. The drone was able to scan the area around the prison and found the escapee hiding in a ditch. Within an hour the inmate was back in custody.
Tricky trailer theft
​Maumee police received a call from a local transport company saying that they had used GPS to locate a trailer that had been missing from their site for two years. The trailer ended up in another transport company’s lot in Georgia, and when contacted about returning it, a member of the Georgia company told the victim, “You shouldn’t have let us take it.” The trailer was eventually returned to its owner.
Don’t diss the dogs
Toledo police have charged a local man with a misdemeanor for taunting a police dog. The suspect was part of a group loitering outside a local hotel. When police showed up in response to a complaint about the loiterers, the suspect started clapping at the dog “in attempts to rile her up.” The suspect has pled not guilty to the charges.
Burglar burrows under beanbag
Toledo police found a robbery suspect hiding in an unusual place. The suspect was on the run after holding up a local convenience store. Police lost track of him for ten minutes, until they received a call about a break-in near the store. Responding to the break in, they found the suspect in the basement hiding under a bean bag chair. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery.
