Smokestack blast

At 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, the last of three smokestacks at Toledo Edison Power Plant on Front St. in East Toledo was imploded and shortened to roughly 75 feet. The $388,000 demolition was paid for by a 2011 federal grant, to be used toward preservation and cleanup of the city. A future for the short stack lies ahead — city officials plan to turn the site into a mock lighthouse. Photos by Jeff Jones
