Nothing says summer quite like a pair of sandals— flip flops to be exact. Get into the swing of summer by celebrating National Flip Flop Day with a cold smoothie and a good cause.
Local smoothie hotspot, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, has spent the past decade as a large supporter of the organization Camp Sunshine, which provides a special camping experience, year round, for children with life threatening conditions and their families— completely free of charge. To date, the camp has provided a safe, happy and free experience to 47,000 families.
Taking place on Friday, June 17, the annual day of toes-out-fun, created solely to support Camp Sunshine, has proven to be one of the greatest monetary efforts. Throughout the past 10 years, $3.7 million have been directly donated by Tropical Smoothie Cafe, and this year, the company aims to raise $1 million in 2016’s celebration.
“National Flip Flop Day is the single most important day of the year to Tropical Smoothie Cafe,” says Jennie Hong, Senior Director of Brand Marketing and Strategy, stressing that the significance of the cause is to give back to children in need.
As tradition, any cafe guest that is wearing flip flops between the hours of 2-7pm on Friday, June 17 will receive a free 24 oz. Jetty Punch smoothie. To put things into a visual perspective: during National Flip Flop Day, the cafe will give away 250,000 bananas and 63,000 pounds of strawberries.
