Last month the City Paper ran a cover story about local leaders who are looking to keep our water clean. In the article, former city council member Mike Ferner discussed the importance of designating Lake Erie as an impaired watershed. This week, the Toledo city council will have their own discussion about that issue.
The council will hold a meeting to discuss whether or not to designate the Lake Erie river basin as an impaired watershed. Doing so would allow the EPA to perform a more in-depth examination of the water for signs of pollution and algae throughout the year.
Present at the meeting will be Adam Rissien, Director of Agricultural & Water Policy for the Ohio Environmental Council and Karl Gebhardt, Deputy Director of Water Resources for the Ohio branch of the EPA. They will help foster the discussion with the council to hopefully pass a resolution calling for the impaired watershed designation.
The meeting, which will be open to the public, takes place at the city council chambers at One Government Plaza in downtown Toledo on Tuesday, January 26th at 1pm. To help the council reach this important decision, contact your council member (who can be found here) to let them know how important the impaired watershed designation is.
