Carry on, but not out

After a two-month limbo for the hopheads and wine aficionados who frequented Middle Grounds Market at the Oliver House, there’s a final (and slightly disappointing) verdict with the specialty retailer’s liquor license. Since the shop shares the same space as Maumee Bay Brewing Company, it will have to adhere to a 1939 Ohio law called the Tied House Act that prohibits manufacturers of alcohol from selling the products of other brands ‘to go’. The shop will carry on, though, transforming into a lounge and tasting bar for wines and craft beers, along with specialty foods and ice creams. They also plan to partner with a local wine shop to provide the in-the-know bottles market manager Matt Snyder is known for discovering. 27 Broadway St. 419-351-3335.
