Named after the Charles Dickens novel, Bleak House Coffee’s four owners want to make drinking coffee an indulgence. Each cup is made with the pour-over drip method, pouring hot water through ceramic funnels over the coffee, letting it drip into the mug.
“A lot of other coffee shops have dispensers, or the coffee sits around all day,” said co-owner Scott Ciolek. “We’re making expensive, good-tasting coffee one cup at a time.” Its namesake novel was a story about a multi-generational legal action, fitting for a coffee shop that’s located in downtown Toledo’s Spitzer Building, home to so many law offices (Ciolek himself is an attorney). Try sitting at one of the tables (repurposed law office doors) for a combo of Jerome’s famous lemon bar and cup of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee ($4). Open weekdays 7am-3pm. 520 Madison Ave. 419-740-1125. www.bleakhousecoffee.com
