After graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2003, roommates Ryan Fowler and Kevin Goldner followed their careers away from the college town, where they met as roommates. Still wanting to represent their Falcon pride, the two friends realized that there were limited options for alums away from campus to purchase BGSU Falcons merchandise.
After deep internet digging, the alums were only able to find a few options that helped keep their pride alive. Available merchandise was limited and not the kind of interesting and attractive designs that the duo had in mind.
Instead of letting go of their school spirit, the partners co-founded BG Memories LLC, an online marketplace geared toward out-of-town alumni. Currently living in Cincinnati, Ryan and Kevin both work with whatifsports.com and foxsports.com, and share a mutual interest in athletics. Ryan brings his knowledge of online business to the table. Kevin, who Ryan calls the “design guru,” adds his graphic design talents to create new and creative designs for alumni.
The modest business model launched in February 2014, and has grown substantially since the beginning. BG Memories is officially licensed with BGSU and produces a large selection of t-shirts and apparel that promote Falcon pride. Both owners still maintain full-time jobs outside of BG Memories.
Customers have enjoyed the fashionable looks made by the independent company. Goldner’s design sense is flexible and his style ranges from vintage-inspired t-shirts to contemporary-looking hoodies, perfect for chilly game days. The duo uses a direct-to-garment printing method, keeping the shirts as soft as they were before production.
While mostly focused on athletics, BG Memories is also open to commissions, creating t-shirts for campus-based clubs and organizations. For the crowd that spent more time downtown than in the stadium, the Memory t-shirt collection showcases off-campus hot spots and student-body favorites in a range of styles.
