The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo should take a victory lap — the You Are Here Toledo project, put on last year (which we covered here), has won an international design award from HOW magazine, to be announced in the March 2013 issue. The project was unavoidable in 2012 — a series of three-foot dots scattered around Toledo’s sidewalks. Each marker sported a unique piece of local art and a digital code to further inform passers-by through their smartphones. HOW took notice of the project’s ambition: it was selected as one of 20 outstanding submissions out of more than 1,000. The project was so successful that Jenn Stucker, the Art Director behind You Are Here, hints that a new iteration of the project is being developed—more details will be published in HOW.
