When it comes to glass art, there is a stark contrast between the experiences of the viewer and the artist. The glass artist is a physical performer who transforms liquid molten glass into something still and solid. Immerse yourself in a glassmaking hotshop during the Toledo Museum of Art’s multisensory exhibition, Katherine Gray: (Being) in a Hotshop. Examine glassblowing tools, listen to the sounds and experience the smells of the studio, see videos of the process and view finished works at this installation, inspired by historic glassmaking methods and forms. Gray will discuss her work and participate in a glassblowing demonstration in the Glass Pavilion at 1pm on Saturday, February 9.
