Ottawa Hills High School grad Sam Barton’s LeSo Gallery exhibition COMPROMI$ED is coming to an end, but not before one last hurrah — a closing reception on Friday, April 5. Barton’s graphite illustrations dazzle with careful detailing; she lovingly recreates fabric textures, such as the creases in clothing worn by a solemn-but-satirical rendition of Abe Lincoln as kingpin. Her portraits stem from her consuming love of hip-hop culture, and explore the genre’s messages and motives. “The exhibition is a commentary on the integrity of contemporary mainstream hip-hop and its relationship to both value and values,” she said. Barton portrays genre figures as religious, even mythical entities. 7-9pm. Free. Le So Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave. www.lesogallery.com. —IH
