Style Sense: Callie Staton

Callie Staton

Age: 20

Occupation: Clerk at Kohl’s/law student at the University of Toledo

Callie claims her sense of style began fairly recently, but you’d never know it by the looks of her pixie haircut and savvy pairing of neutrals. With the ultimate 90s icon Winona Ryder as her muse, Callie creates her look by mixing vintage chic and modern pieces that accentuate her statuesque figure.

When did your sense of style begin?

Probably in my freshman year in college, because you can schedule your classes when you want and don’t have to get up until 11… so I could take some time to look nice. And you hit that point when you [think] ‘I’m an adult and should probably start dressing like I care about myself. ’I cut my hair in August [and thought] ‘Wow, I can really rock this! At some point I should be dressing so I look like I know what I’m doing!’

Where do you draw inspiration?

I like 90s fashion, like Rachel and Monica from Friends, I love Winona Ryder, the 90s grunge thing… I love the little crop tops and turtlenecks. I like high-waisted jeans because I’m tall, so finding things that actually fit the length of me is like finding gold.

What are your favorite places to shop?

I’m all about rummage sales and garage sales, and thrift shopping at Savers and the Goodwill outlet store in Sandusky.

What are three must-haves in your wardrobe?

Boots, earrings, and I’m a fan of sheath shirts that are made of stretchy material. They’re really comfy.

If you could have one style superpower, what would it be?

I wish that I would have the ability to take clothes in my closet and make things [the color] that I need. That would be the greatest thing ever and would save money, too.
