If you have not yet seen the exhibit, catch the lauded and loved Degas and the Dance exhibition before it closes Sunday, January 10. This major exhibition has drawn large crowds to view Edgar Degas’ musings on the ballerina, with works on paper and sculptures on display. Degas and the Dance also celebrates The Toledo Ballet’s 75th anniversary of The Nutcracker by offering a glimpse at the company’s rich legacy through costumes, photographs, props and other memorabilia from the production.
Upcoming: The Detroit Institute of Art will open an exhibition surveying representations of dance and culture in American life in culture with Dance: American Art, 1830-1960 on Sunday, March 20, 2016.
Bring your sketchbook, a pencil and draw a local dancer during the TMA’s Drawing the the Galleries, from 7-9pm on Thursday, December 17 and from 1-3pm on December 26, 27, 29-31.
The Toledo Ballet will also host Open Rehearsals on the specially-built stage in the Degas and the Dance exhibit to offer a behind-the-scenes peek from 6:45-8:30pm on Friday, December 18 and Friday, January 1.
See multicultural styles of dance from Saturday, December 26 through Sunday, January 3 at the TMA during their annual winter celebration, The Great Art Escape, which honors dance as this year’s theme.
