The naughty and nice list of movies

Winter is about hot chocolate, the smell of that pine tree in your living room, spending money on presents and, definitely, watching movies. I mean, there’s even a whole genre built around Christmas for goodness sakes, and it’s way too cold outside. Cuddling up with loved ones to watch a movie is just what we want.

Here’s a peek at some of the films that will light up screens at local theaters in the coming weeks.

Thursday, 12.17 | Reel Opinions with WGTE Public Media

Friday, 1.8 & Saturday, 1.9 | City Film Double Feature and Dance on Film
Chinatown & Blade Runner & La Petite Danseuse

The Museum’s Little Theater is using film as an extension of the exhibits: The City and Degas & The Dance.
There are unseen stories unfolding every day that maintain our sanctity. To focus your eyes and appreciation on the dark complexities of Los Angeles in separate contexts, Chinatown and Blade Runner will be shown, back-to-back, during a City Film Double Feature on January 8 at 6pm. Chinatown, starring Jack Nicholson, is highly acclaimed for combining an Academy Award winning screenplay with the social issue of Southern California’s water scarcity. Blade Runner, after flopping at the box office in 1982, has since evolved into a popular sci-fi movie about a dystopian L.A. being overtaken by killer robots.
The following day at 2pm, Edgar Degas’ sculpted subject of the Little Dancer of Fourteen Years will have her story told during the film La Petite Danseuse. You will walk away feeling like you know this tiny dancer from the 1800s, by spending your Saturday afternoon with her.
