It's Bunny Time

Easter is rapidly approaching, and Toledoans have flocked to area businesses for an opportunity to get their picture taken with the elusive Easter bunny. The Toledo City Paper wanted in on the action and sent our editorial intern to two separate bunnies to get the scoop on their operation and see which rabbit is worth your time.

The Mall Bunny

Westfield Franklin Park Mall, 5001 Monroe St. Closed March 31. www.westfield.com/franklinpark

The Setting: The pink Easter bunny sits alone on a bench underneath a white lattice overhang.  Two women motion for me to sit on the oversized bunny’s lap.

Comfort: I probably weighed at least twice as much as this female Easter bunny — I don’t think they accounted for the possibility of a 22-year old intern customer.

Attitude: The workers originally thought that I had lost a bet. After I explained my situation, they were nothing but smiles (and a few laughs).

Freebies: A small bowl of candy for the customers to enjoy while their picture prints.

Overall Experience: Initially awkward, but they came around. —GMK

The Outdoorsman Bunny

Bass Pro Shops, 10000 Bass Pro Blvd., Rossford. Closed April 1st. www.basspro.com

The Setting: The Bass Pro store is completely packed with families patiently waiting their turn to take a free photo with the Easter bunny. I headed to the back of the line and waited for about an hour for my chance to take a picture with the rabbit himself.

Comfort: They provided a large bench that easily fit both me and the Easter bunny. The outdoorsy, camouflage backdrop fit the mood of the store perfectly and made for a memorable picture.

Attitude: The workers were very accommodating and didn't miss a beat — even though I was the only participant above the age of 10 in the place.

Freebies: A 4×10" photograph of myself with the Easter bunny

Overall Experience: The workers were great and the picture was free, but the hour long wait was less than desirable. —GMK
