Toledo has a plethora of talented writers to call its own yet another has seen her work debut to the eager readers of the city as it soars to bestseller status in the New York Times. Christine Brennan’s newest literary accomplishment featuring the rising star in college Basketball, Caitlin Clark, sheds a shocking and thrilling peek into the world of American sports told exclusively through the eyes of a talented woman who lives and breathes the written word.
The rise

Brennan got her start in the Old Orchard and Ottawa Hills area of Toledo, growing up in a time of fairly strict gender norms where opportunities in athletic areas didn’t really exist for girls. Christine proved herself a bit of an odd one out early on by asking for things like various types of sports equipment and tickets to games at our very own Mud Hens stadium. Perhaps a sign of things to come, a true passion for the world of sports and athletics. She would later go on to attend Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism where she would earn prestigious bachelor’s and master’s degrees, proceeding in her career as a stringent advocate for female journalists. While the world of journalism, specifically sports journalism was largely male dominated, she believed there could and should be room to improve and become more inclusive. Brennan set the groundwork for such progressive mindsets by becoming the first female sports writer for the Miami Herald and later by The Washington Post. But this was just the start. Brennan went on to cover some of the most intense controversies and topics of the athletic world. Her intense drive and focus earned her near global acclaim for her work and has been named as one of the country’s top 10 sports columnists twice. Among her many accomplishments, she’s also headed the Association for Women in Sports Media and worked to create an internship program through the association which provides valuable scholarships for women wishing to climb the same path she followed. As of now, over 140 women have achieved success as a result of her dedication.
On her game
Brennan’s understanding and appreciation of women in the world of sports shines yet again with her incredible telling of Caitlin Clark’s rise to basketball stardom from college level sports clear up into the WNBA like sports fans have never seen before. Clark has literally changed the way the nation views womens’ sports and through rich storytelling, behind-the-scenes interviews and an all-round passion for the world in which she’s entrenched herself, Brennan delivers the goods and then some. For all fans of womens’ basketball, On Her Game is an absolute must-read on this fantastic young legend in the making. Brennan’s latest literary work officially released on May 5th and is available for purchase at several major booksellers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million and Simon and Schuster. Worth checking out for everyone fascinated with womens’ sports and a vested interest in following the career of a true pioneer in the world of journalism.
