Human Trafficking Prevention Group Holds Inaugural Event

On Thursday, AO: Advocating Opportunity, a Toledo group that works to stop and prevent human trafficking, will celebrate its first year of incorporation. “We are thrilled to be in a position to host our first annual fundraiser,” said Executive Director, Megan Mattimoe.

Assisting some of the most at-risk members of the community, AO has helped remove women and children from situations where they were physically exploited. The organization has aided the expungement of criminal records for women who involuntarily commit sexual acts. Through litigation and social services— at no cost,  clients are able to start anew with stable, safe lives, knowing that they are not alone in the fight against human trafficking.

Thursday’s fundraiser, “Golden Opportunity,”  will feature beer from Maumee Bay, pastries from Vendome and food from Cynthia’s Catering. The event will include a talk from Toledo Ballet Artistic Director, Michael Lang, as well as a beautiful and graceful performance from one of the Toledo Ballet’s dancers.

All proceeds support AO’s new health and wellness program. “[We are] excited about what’s to come and where the organization is going,” said Mattimoe.
