He captured the lifestyle of an entire Parisian generation. And Edouard Manet, one of the most notable French artists in history didn’t fabricate it either — instead of using traditional posed settings, he captured subjects in their natural environments, providing a more vivid understanding of his era and its people. On October 7, the Toledo Museum of Art opens Manet: Portraying Life, an exhibition of 40 painting on loan from major museum in Europe, Japan and North America that is the first show to completely focus on his talent as a portrait painter. The show is co-organized by the TMA and the Royal Academy of London, where the show will run in January, after its stop in Toledo — the only stop in the United States.
