Through July 15 Bowling Green State University is hosting its 15th annual Northwest Ohio Community Art Show.
This year’s event is being sponsored by the BGSU School of Art, the Ohio Arts Council, Toledo Federation of Arts Societies, Bowling Green Arts Council and many more. Held in the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery, this art show is free and open to the public. Parking is also free past 7pm.
108 works will be on display from 41 artists from 5 counties in Northwest Ohio and a great deal of the art pieces are available for purchase.
Laura Makar, an ‘09 alum who earned a bachelor’s in fine arts from BGSU as well as a master’s in fine arts in 2014 from Wayne University, is serving as this year’s juror.
Makar is not new to the art scene. Makar’s art has been viewed on a local and national scale. She’s displayed her artwork in shows throughout the country, including Georgia, California, North Dakota and New York.
Makar has also participated in solo shows at Whitdel Arts in Detroit, ROY G BIV Gallery in Columbus, Ohio and Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati.
As juror, Makar will be commenting on awards. Guests are also given the opportunity to vote on their favorite art pieces. The winning piece will receive the Bowling Green Arts Council People’s Choice Award.
Other awards will include: Best of Show, the BGSU School of Art Award, the Toledo Federation of Arts Societies Award, the Bowling Green Noon Kiwanis Youth Art Award, and several others. Awards prize money will be totaling more than $2,000. These awards will be selected by Laura Makar!
This year’s gallery hours are Thursdays 1- 4pm and 7-9pm, and Friday through Sunday from 1 to 4pm.
