All the world is a stage, but you can’t really mention your soliloquy during lunch with grandma as a performance, no matter how much she cheered afterwards. But fear not, local amateur playwrights will soon have a chance to shine with the new program, Toledo Voices. Developed by the Toledo Repertoire Theatre, the initiative aims to perform staged readings of unpublished theatrical works. Your inner Tennessee Williams could finally be embraced by the public, but you only have until Friday, December 2 to mail your works in for consideration. Yeah, we said mail, not email. And only hard copies, securely bound will be accepted. Bad news for those of you who write plays on cocktail napkins or only have your plays in your mind’s eye at the moment. If mail sounds like an impossible effort, you might be able to drop your submission off at the theatre, but only if you call Business Manager Bonnie Herrmann at 419-243-9277 to make arrangements first.
If you are selected, you will be notified by Sunday, January 1, and you’ll have an opportunity to be involved in the creative process. The first readings will be performed Saturday, February 11, Saturday, February 25 and Saturday, March 11.
Include a cover letter with your submission. Who knows, you could be the next Maxim Gorky?
Mail plays to: Toledo Repertoire Theatre 16 10th St., Toledo, OH 43604
