TCP Tested : Cake Decorating

Class #1

Move over "Cake Boss," because the TCP Testers are learning all of your tricks! That's right, we are in a four week cake decorating class at Cake Arts Supply on Sylvania Ave.

Wednesday night was our first class and it was both challenging and fun. Owner Dorothy Bryan lead us novices through the necessary supplies and onto making cute, little, roses using two different techniques.

She used to teach roses on the last night, but people used to get really frustrated, she said. To end on a happier note, she now teaches roses the first class and we'll practice a little bit each class.

"The class size is small, so while everybody else was creating gorgeous frosting blooms, Dorothy was able to give me a little extra attention when she noticed my blossoms flopping off my cake nail." – Amanda

Bryan leads the hands-on classes, gently drilling decorating pointers with witty phrases and nuggets of knowledge–filling the void for those of us who didn't inherit our kitchen wisdom from mom or grandma.

The hour and a half lesson flew by as we carefully (and not-so-carefully) squeezed out gobs of frosting onto pieces of wax paper and marveled at our new skills!

"Next we'll be learning how to spread frosting with finesse and create the perfect crumb coat." -Amanda

Cake Arts Supply offers cake decorating classes for both beginners and advanced bakers, as well as cookie and candy classes.
