Since Lake Michigan is the largest body of freshwater in the country, United States armed forces used it as a secret military training outlet between 1943 and 1945 during WWII, making the Great Lakes an archive for wrecks— both ship and aircraft. Learn about the positioning of two sunken U.S. Navy aircraft carriers during a screening of the documentary Heroes on Deck: World War II on Lake Michigan.
It is expected that more than 100 planes call the depth’s of the lake their final resting place due to pilot error and mechanical failure. Written, produced and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker John Davies, the documentary delves into the unknown history of America’s WWII involvement. A VIP reception with Davies will take place prior to the screening.
7-8:30pm Thursday, August 4.
