In the age of Monsanto and GMOs, learning how to grown and preserve your own food is a great way to control what you eat. In observance of Local Foods Week, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and the Ohio State University have partnered to present a lecture titled 'From Plant to Plate: Preserving Fresh Local Produce.' The lecture, which takes place on September 10 at the Birmingham Branch Library, will feature Patrice Powers-Barker of the Ohio State University. She will demonstrate common home food preservation techniques such as how to properly can fruits and vegetables as well as freezing and drying fresh produce and herbs. These sessions are free and open to both beginner and veteran food preservationists.
