Like Toledo before it, Bowling Green has announced that a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) is opening in Downtown BG.
The new project comes after months of hearings and planning by the City of Bowling Green, BG City Council, Downtown Bowling Green Social Improvement District (SID) and area business owners.
In a DORA, customers can purchase alcoholic beverages from select businesses and consume them outside, provided they stay within the designated area. Bowling Green’s DORA district covers the majority of the downtown area on Main Street, from Clough through Court St.
Currently, six bars and restaurants in Bowling Green are authorized to sell DORA beverages— Bar 149, The Clay Pot, City Tap & The Attic, Doc’s Big City Saloon, SamB’s and Trotter’s Tavern. The press release noted that more locations are expected to join in the coming days.
Bowling Green’s DORA will be available annually from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Hours are from 4-10pm, Monday-Thursday and 11am-10pm, Friday-Sunday.
Toledo’s own DORA program first launched in 2017. It was greatly expanded this year in response to indoor seating limitations brought on by COVID-19.
