To promote visibility for his condition, Toledo photographer Nick Amrhein’s series “Pump Strong” showcases the diverse lives of Type 1 Diabetics living with an insulin pump.

“I wanted to shock viewers… Type 1 Diabetics live with the challenge of diabetes every day and I think sometimes it can be unnoticed or underestimated,” explains Amrhein, who says most people think his insulin pump is a pager.
