Thanksgiving is a time for family and food. The unfortunate reality is that this isn’t the case for many Toledo locals. The Cherry Street Mission hopes to provide food and the experience of Thanksgiving for those who aren’t fortunate enough to have it, with their Box Out Hunger Program. The mission is gathering all of their resources to provide outlets for many to give to those in need.
There are multiple ways to get involved. The first is to sponsor a family, which means that for just $30 you can provide a full Thanksgiving dinner with all of the trimmings to a family in need. Food donations can also be made at the Madison Food Service and Community Center. Cash donations are preferred though because it allows the mission to fill empty spaces in their food boxes. Donations can be made at boxouthunger419.org.
Lastly, you can get involved by volunteering to assemble the Thanksgiving dinner boxes. There is also a need for delivery drivers to help distribute the food to families.
Volunteers will meet at the Cherry Street Mission, 1501 Monroe Street, Toledo, at 8 am on November 19. Any help you can give will be much appreciated. cherrystreetmission.org/box-out-hunger.
