The decline of the Midwest’s industrial base, from a once-vibrant economic powerhouse to a blight of abandoned factories, serves as a muse for British-born artist Sandra Jane Heard. Her new exhibit, Rust Belt Muse, pays tribute to the former glory days of the industrial Midwest while exploring humanity’s impact  on the environment. Painstakingly combining damaged or discarded items with ecologically friendly materials, Heard gives viewers reason to ponder the intersection of modern life and the natural world.

Opening reception on May 9, 6-9pm. Gallery runs through June 27. River Arts Gallery,
115 W. Front St., Perrysburg. 419-874-8900. river-house-arts.com. Free
