Its a befuddling situation — to define who and what Kevin Smith really is. Aside from “Dogma,” most of his films have been mildly entertaining at best, and some of his decisions make you scratch your head. Take, for example, his recent decision to stop directing films. Now, it’s not a decision that bothers me that much, save for the fact that his latest film Red State, which he wrote and directed, is amazing. Unlike “Clerks,” Red State is a shocking film, a precursor of what will surely happen any day now. John Goodman, who has kept a low profile of late, kicks ass in this film. Whatever Kevin Smith decides to do next, this film is a testament to great film making.
