Kicking off autumn, 1700's style

Some French-speaking readers may be wondering, “What is a ‘Rock of Beef’ and why are people celebrating it?” While that might be an actual festival elsewhere, the 40th Annual Roche de Boeuf Festival actu-ally commemorates the gathering of multiple local American Indian tribes who fought against General Anthony Wayne at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. Part-party, part-history lesson, the festival will feature crafts workers who specialize in pioneer arts from the 1700s, like blacksmithing, rope making, quilting, basket weaving and woodcarving. Fans of the modern era can enjoy more contempo- rary entertainment, including a parade, live music, artists, vendors, carnival rides, an antique car show and more. There will also be plenty of activities for kids, like face painting and pony rides. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in historical fun.
