Naughty/Nice premieres at Perrysburg Musical Theater

Have you ever wished you could go back and read your letters to Santa? What if they were staged and given a soundtrack right before your very eyes? And then, what if you realized you were actually a basement speakeasy, vaudevillian kind of kid?

This hilarious scenario is the premise of a show certain to entertain local audiences this season. The Perrysburg Musical Theater will stage Naughty/Nice, a bitingly comedic and preposterously profane Christmas revue, on Friday, December 9.

The Perrysburg production features five actors who will tackle more than 20 unique characters in 20 musical numbers. Each role is a special archetype – a girl who longs to mother a doll, a boy who dances to his own special carol, naughty brats who misunderstand the meaning of Christmas, and a couple of upper class toddlers who question the holiday in an almost existential fashion.

Clearly nontraditional

Naughty/Nice is anything but traditional. According to KennethJones.com, the creators see the show as “counter-programming to more traditional fare like A Christmas Carol. Mixing the heart of A Charlie Brown Christmas with the salty postmodern comedy of The Santaland Diaries, Avenue Q and Spelling Bee, Naughty/Nice will be a potent audience-builder, targeting twenty-to-fiftysomething theatergoers.” The show’s musical content has something for everyone – from disco to bossanova, from brassy diva showstoppers to tap dancing.

For the Perrysburg performance, guests are encouraged to bring their own beverages and don their ugliest holiday sweater. “Naughty” and “Nice” themed desserts and appetizers will be available for grazing. Proceeds from this event will go to support the Perrysburg Musical Theater’s summer production.
