Even a novice art appreciator can admire the surface images of masterpieces created by Van Gogh and Rembrandt. But with the help of modern technology, it’s now possible to view the images hidden beneath the layers of paint to reveal works that history's most influential artists decided to cover up. In the documentary Out of the Shadows, Holland's Rembrandt Research Institute and scientists from the University of Delft explore the digitally revealed images that were previously unseen. On Friday, March 8, visitors can watch a screening of the documentary followed by a group discussion on the latest scientific methods for analyzing works of art led by members of TMA's conservation staff. 7:30pm.
