Back in the 1930's the TMA presented two landmark exhibitions featuring the works of 15 contemporary Japanese artists who had revived the traditional art of woodblock prints incorporating Western aesthetics and a more modern sensibility that was known as the shin hanga ("new print") movement. Eighty years later, the Museum has reassembled and reinterpreted those shows in a major fall exhibition, Fresh Impressions: Early Modern Japanese Prints. Companion objects depicted in the prints such as kimonos, Kabuki costumes and samurai swords have also been added to the show. Also, wander over to the Community Gallery to see The Art of Japanese Fashion, garments designed by area clothing artists, (checkout the photos on Toledo City Paper Facebook page.)
