Issue Box Theatre is marking a decade of powerful storytelling and social change with Ms. Cast, a cabaret performance like you’ve never seen before, on Sunday, Mar. 23 at 2pm. This one-night-only event features local artists stepping into roles they have dreamed of playing – regardless of traditional casting norms.

There are many roles that people dream of performing but never get the chance to, because of gender, age, race or other casting norms. Ms. Cast. gives the actors the opportunity to step into a role they have always dreamed of performing.

“We have performers who will be singing songs that they would not be cast for. So we have some male singing female songs, and we have a gay person singing a straight person song,” founder Rosie Best said. “So it’s kind of the idea of it is you get a shot to do the song that you always want to do, but wouldn’t be allowed to do.”

The cast list is as diverse as the casting itself, with ages ranging from early 20’s to late 50’s.

“There’s a mix of people who are younger and people in the mids,” Best said, “and then I’m probably going to be the oldest performer, because my 60th birthday is the day after the event.”

The performance will also celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Issue Box Theater, honoring their legacy of addressing social justice through the arts. For a decade, these “actorvists” have been using art to address social issues in our community.

Celebrate the 10 year anniversary on Sunday, Mar. 23 at 2pm. Tickets are $30 or 2 for $50 with code “COUPLE”. Refreshments will be served after the show. Tickets are available at issueboxtheatre.org/ms-cast.
