Unearthing an emtombed classic

Little known: Giuseppe Verdi's Aida was the first opera produced in Toledo in 1959. That show launched what would eventually become the Toledo Opera, so it's only fitting that they're bringing it back for another run. Every bit as tragic and exotic as it was in 1959, Aida is the story of two star-crossed lovers in the ancient world: the titular character, an enslaved Ethiopian princess, and the other an Egyptian soldier. They eventually take their love to the grave—or rather, the tomb, in true Egyptian fashion.

Friday, October 4, 7:30pm, Sunday, October 6, 2pm. $40-70. Valentine Theater, 410 Adams St. 419-255-7464. toledoopera.org
