Twenty-six ways to slice it

Told through several different monologues, Anna Deavere Smith's Fires in the Mirror presents an intense, sobering look at the ways race and religion bring separate lives together—even in awful circumstances. Set in 1991 Brooklyn, the play chronicles the true life story of a Jewish man who veers onto a sidewalk and crashes into a 7-year-old Caribbean-American boy. There is no linear plot, but the stories of these 26 observers tell a tale that transcends right and wrong.
