Playwright Lauren Gunderson’s witty and meta-comedy The Revolutionists comes to the Village Players mainstage. The show focuses on a 17th-century playwright named Olympe De Gouge and her circle of friends— which includes both Marie Antoinette and Haitian revolutionary Marianne Angelle— as they gossip about bows and ponder the ongoing French Revolution. But on another level, the show is really about Gunderson’s views on women like De Gouge and their often-obscured place in history. This play-within-a-play-within-social-commentary will challenge audiences as well as tickle their funny bones.
