American playwright Mary Chase’s 1944 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Harvey, is a comedy of errors like no other. When social-climber Vera becomes embarrassed by her sweet, calm-tempered brother, Elwood P. Dowd, and his ( imaginary) friend Harvey, she seeks to commit the half-fictional duo to a sanitarium. Unfortunately, the psychologists accidentally commit Vera, not her brother, leading to frenzy and confusion. See Chase’s Harvey at Chelsea’s Purple Rose Theater through August 26. Opening Friday, June 23. $20.50-$46. Times, dates and prices vary, see online for more info.
