Columbia Gas of Ohio Offers Bill Assistance Programs

As the weather starts to cool down, Columbia Gas of Ohio wants to remind customers payment assistance programs are available for those in need.

Customers can receive assistance through both the 2024-25 Special Reconnect Order (SRO) and the Home Energy Assitance Program (HEAP). Payment plans are also available through Columbia Gas.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) announced that between Oct. 14 and April 18, 2025 Columbia Gas customers can use SRO to avoid shutoff. Customers facing shutoff or those that have already been shut off can contact Columbia to avoid disconnection or to reconnect service for a small fee of $175.

Customers who have been shut off must pay an additional reconnection fee. Customers who use the SRO plan also must establish a payment plan to pay off their outstanding balance.

Another assistance program available to customers is HEAP. HEAP is a one-time benefit applied directly to utility bills. The program is federally funded and administered by the Ohio Department of Development.

To be eligible for HEAP, customers must have a household income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For information on using HEAP, contact Pathway Toledo.

Payment plans are also available to customers in need of assistance through Columbia Gas of Ohio.
