Jesse lives in Old Orchard, but regularly commutes to Ann Arbor to work at Anthropologie. It’s a store that features a collection of whimsical, romantic looks in addition to unique home decor items. She bends the rules of “boho” style, pairing softer-looking pieces with tough-girl extras.
Define your personal style.
My style is definitely influenced by Anthropologie and Free People, but I like to throw in pieces that tilt the balance of the “boho” look. I appreciate bold statement jewelry that harshens the soft lines of a drapey top, and I will never take off my favorite pair of worn leather riding boots.
What makes an item of clothing or accessory a good investment ?
If it’s a garment or accessory that will immediately draw the eye, it is worth the investment! I believe in purchasing a few great quality items per season that can transition well between outfits and moods.
You make really cool jewelry that is often for sale during festivals and Maker’s Mart events (the next one occurs November 22nd, see p. 49) called ‘Tiny Terras.’ What’s the inspiration behind this line of baubles?
I have a really strange attraction to miniatures. One day I took components of one of my terrariums and shrunk it down to pendant size. I love the simplicity of the glass vials. The hinged-frame pieces paired with preserved natural botanicals give the rustic concept a modern twist.
Who are your fashion icons—past and present? Real or fictitious?
Sienna Miller has always been an inspiration for my wardrobe and hair. She tends to wear mostly muted tones with saturated color thrown in through accessorizing. And you rarely ever see her when she is not wearing a pair of incredible boots!
