Style Sense: Jackie McKown

Style is something that is unique to each person. It can be imitated, but it’s very hard to duplicate true individuality. That is exactly what self-proclaimed Punk Gypsy, Jackie McKown, exudes with her daily bohemian threads. She is a walking piece of art, from her multi-color marble gauges to her Vans with various wild patterns, McKown is one you would want to ask, “Where did you get that?”

What is the glue that holds your look together? My crystal jewelry that I make. It is inspired by pieces of nature. I use everything from foraged mushrooms, moss, flowers, leaves & anything else found in nature.

So does your jewelry reflect your mood? Yes it does! Rose Quartz is the “Love” stone and it’s supposed to give off good vibrations. I wear it when I want to be in a good mood, plus it’s pretty.

Your attire seems very comfortable and perfect for an on-the-go lifestyle. How would you describe it? I do live a very busy life! One minute I can be painting a picture at home, then the next minute, I’ll be on a hike in the woods somewhere. So I try to dress in a way that makes it easy for me to transition from one activity to another. A babydoll tee with my favorite band, a vest with pins or accessories, skinny jeans and a pair of combat boots is a perfect example of what I like to wear daily.

If you had to go to a gala and the attire was more formal wear, what would your outfit consist of? It would definitely have to be a short black dress, with fishnet stockings, knee-high boots, a form-fitting vest, with my crystal jewelry and messy hair to top it off.

Where can we shop if we wanted to achieve your everyday looks? I go to Gabes and thrift stores like the Goodwill and Salvation Army for most of my stuff. Online shops like angryyoundandpoor.com and nightchannels.com are where I get my pants as well as tees from. I also shop on etsy.com for unique handmade and vintage clothing and accessories
