Metroparks Toledo is actively enhancing its offerings through significant expansions and the success of existing programs. A notable development is the ongoing transformation of the riverfront, highlighted by the Glass City Metropark. Since the opening of Phase 2 in June 2023, this park has become a year-round destination, attracting over 600,000 visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and variety of amenities.
Adding to the organization’s record of national and regional recognition, The Glass City Metropark won the Best-of-Show honors as the 2024 recipient of the Best in Innovation Award from the National Recreation and Park Association.
Looking ahead, Metroparks Toledo is planning an urban campground at Glass City Metropark, set to open in 2026. This initiative aims to provide unique camping experiences within the city, enhancing access to nature for residents and visitors alike.
Additionally, the Glass City Riverwalk project is progressing, with the current $58-million third phase focusing on constructing a multi-use trail along both sides of the Maumee River. This phase includes features such as a scenic cove with river access and a spiral bridge connecting new downtown green spaces. Completion is anticipated by the end of next year, marking the program’s halfway point.
These initiatives, along with the continued success of existing parks and programs, underscore Metroparks Toledo’s commitment to providing exceptional recreational spaces and experiences, ensuring a bright future for the community.
