You can see it
in the wrinkles
on a man's forehead,
or in the way
his jaw clinches tight.
You can see it
in the way a woman
clasps her hands together,
or in the lines
around her frowning lips.

say you shouldn't,
it's a waste of time.
I suspect those people
have never had a light bill
three weeks past due,
or a teen-aged son
two hours late from curfew.
