I have noticed that death is everywhere
pouring out of the television
lurking at a late night gas station
sitting in a church pew in Charleston
getting on a bus in Jerusalem
huddling among a planeload of travelers
going anywhere
But we don’t live like that
we can’t live like that
we turn off the television
we take off our professional shoes
we put on our sandals
we put in our gardens
we take off our despair
we plant our sunflowers
we put on our Nikes
and run our dogs in the metropark, yes
and glory in the beauty of the vibrating world
