Float like a butterfly

Tai Chi, a Chinese martial art practiced for both its health benefits and its defense training, is said to help reduce stress, improve flexibility, and cleanse the body of negative energy. An alternate method of exercise, Tai Chi is a relaxing discipline that can be practiced by all body types and skill sets. On three Thursday nights in September (5, 12 and 26), area instructor Jan Gilson will host a hands-on introduction at the Heatherdowns Branch Library. Tai Chi, which translates to "boundless fist", primarily involves three aspects—physical health, meditation and martial arts. Its quickly finding fans in all age groups, walks of life, and levels of athletic ability as it grows in popularity across the country. Free. 6:30pm. Heatherdowns Branch Library, 3265 Glanzman Rd.
