History was made during the filming of Alexander Sokurov’s “Russian Ark.” The entire film is a single take – 87 minutes comprised of one continuous moving shot from the first-person perspective. The host and narrator implies that they are no longer among the living, having met their end during a horrible accident – a member of the Romanovs perhaps returning to a time before the Revolution? This gorgeous film floats through the grounds of the Winter Palace as important guests arrive for a lavish ball.
