Film Fest in the stacks

One does not usually think of a library—a place for reading—as a local cinema hotspot, but the Toledo Lucas County Public Library is on a nearly decade-long  celluloid hot streak. This autumn, the library will screen a series of first-run independent films from across the globe as part of the 9th annual Film FOCUS series. On Monday, September 30, the French dramatic thriller Free Men (above) tells the story of an Algerian freedom fighter in German-occupied Paris. On Monday, October 7, the documentary Koran by Heart will offer an inside look at the The International Holy Koran Competition, a contest of religious memory.

All screenings 6:30pm. Free. Main Library, 325 Michigan St. 419-259-5200. toledopubliclibrary.org
