The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) is offering artists from both the Toledo area and around the world the chance to add to a “virtual quilt” that represent aspects of life during this challenging and unprecedented time.
The COVID-19 Virtual Quilting Bee is a new project where artists are encouraged to stitch a block that sums up an aspect of life during quarantine and submit a picture of the finished product to the TMA webpage or other social media outlets.
The squares will then be virtually “stitched together” in an online gallery, encompassing the spirit of traditional American quilts while still preserving social distancing guidelines.
The project is inspired by the upcoming Radical Tradition: American Quilts and Social Change exhibit scheduled to open at TCP this November. The presentation will focus on the history of the quilt as a socially conscious art form and as to how quilts have been used as statements to inspire change.
Participants of any skill level are encouraged to submit designs. The deadline for entry is Monday, June 1. For more information or to upload a picture of your work, visit the TMA website.
